REQUIRED READING BEFORE YOU APPLY FOR LEAVE OF ABSENCE

Day swapping is standard practice across China when dealing with national/international holidays.  National holidays are not necessarily on a fixed date from one year to the next.  We're at the mercy of the moon, the government as well as our contractual obligations.  Please note the times of year below when you'll need to carefully plan for leave.  If you think your  Leave may conflict with a national holiday, please consult with the Headmaster or his backup, well in advance of your leave needs.  The absolute minimum notice required for a Leave of Absence is 14 days.  Please do not apply for Leave with less than 14 days notice as it will be rejected without consideration.  The onus is on the foreign teacher to check for potential day swaps when planning leave.

Day swapping is likely to affect your regular schedule at the following times of year:

1st January - National Holiday

Around 1st April - Tomb Sweeping Day

1st May - Labor Day

1st June - Children's Day

Around mid-June - Dragon Boat Festival

Around mid-September - Moon Day

Usually 1st - 7th October - National Day

25th December - School usually closed

Finally, be aware of any school parties (Children's Day; Halloween; Christmas Party); BDW summer and winter camps (Jan/Feb and July/Aug) and the three weeks before and after the end/beginning of semesters when leave is not usually permitted.
