Due to the holiday day swap and it being a holiday (of sorts), the two FT meetings will be cancelled tomorrow, Saturday, April 27. Enjoy your afternoons.
Day swapping is standard practice in China when dealing with national/international holidays. National holidays are not necessarily on a fixed date each year. We're at the mercy of the moon, the government as well as our contractual obligations. Please note the times of year below when you'll need to carefully plan for special leave, such as meeting family in China or dealing with consular issues. If you think your special leave may conflict with the national holidays, please consult with David Puckett well in advance of your leave needs. The absolute minimum notice required is 14 days. Please do not apply for special leave with less than 14 days notice as it will be rejected without consideration.
1st January - National Holiday
Around 1st April - Tomb Sweeping Day
1st May - Labour Day
Around mid-June - Dragon Boat Festival
Around mid-September - Moon Day
Usually 1st - 7th October - National Day
25th December - School usually closed

Thank you Jason Lythgoe-Hay for these great new designs for 2013 promotion campaigns! We will be launching the new merchandise at this year's Childrens Day promotion at Nan Hu Park on 1st June. There will also be a giant, helium-filled flying saucer and a bouncy castle and, the long awaited, human sized Bob, Dot and Will characters. But remember, the castle is for the kids ok? Well, you might be allowed on at the end of the event;-) This year's party in the park promises to be our biggest and best - and we WILL outshine our competitors! Please let me know if you have any additional ideas on how to make this day a great day for our students.

It looks like water has returned. I think now the warmer weather has (finally) arrived, we can expect further disruptions over the next few months as work on Changchun's infrastructure begins.
I recommend you get a large bucket and fill it with water and stash it in your bathroom. This will prove invaluable for that awkward moment in banishing 'floaters' when your toilet won't flush.
Please take note of the following regarding uniforms:
We have now placed an order for this summer's polo shirt. This shirt will supersede last summer's white shirt, which should not be worn in classes once the new shirt is available.
A reminder that once the new shirt is available, it must be worn for all teaching, unless teaching adults, then a formal shirt may be worn. In the meantime, please feel free to continue to use last year's polo shirt and black fleece. Please do not use other clothing in the classroom that compromises the set uniform. Branch Managers (including Tina, for Kinder FTs) are responsible for maintaining uniform standards. They are liable to fines if they do not ensure protocol is followed, please don't put them in this avoidable position.
Also be reminded of the following, regarding uniform:
* shorts should not be 'too short'
* open shoes and or flip-flops/thongs are not permitted. Please wear socks with shoes.
* ensure clothes are clean and undamaged
* military/combat themed clothing are not appropriate in a classroom setting
* hats or head wear of any kind are culturally unacceptable
* no piercings on display, other than ears
* tattoos must be covered
* religiously themed ornaments must be covered or hidden from view
Reminder re school transport:
* no smoking on vans
* your litter is your property, please take it with you
* vans take the shortest, most direct route from the teaching sites back to LY in all situations
* please close van windows before you exit
